Pros and cons of onsite vs remote coordination

The BIM methodology proposes a comprehensive vision of the project, encompassing all the linked processes and providing coherence and continuity in their development, generating the need to create new roles in the project.

It is important that there is at least one member of the BIM team in each of the teams participating in the project, who will be in charge of leading and coordinating the work with the rest of the teams involved.

Any modifications made to the building design will be automatically replicated to all parties involved, that is, to all individual drawings generated from the model. This guarantees a speed and quality in the automatic coordination of all the different points of view, with a significant increase in productivity, which enables a subsequent controlled and planned construction process.

A comprehensive simulation of the building can be obtained, throughout its life cycle, helping to reduce costs

  • The design and construction planning based on BIM methodologies, significantly reduces problems in the work, especially in those cases where the project is developed from the design with these methodologies. In addition, a construction planning carried out in 3D offers a more exact dimensioning in the design, providing the preconditions for an optimized design in terms of intersections, connections and other details.
  • It is important to note that all phases of the life cycle of an asset are strongly regulated by local and state regulations. From planning through the project, the work and finally the operation and maintenance. Therefore, the BIM Methodology and specifically the BIM Uses have to provide a formal response and solution to this regulation.
  • A more precise way to guarantee the use and coherence of the model is to identify the BIM model as technical / official design documentation in the contract and define its order of validity in relation to other documents.
  • This methodology places the building's information model as the central axis and source of information in the processes, planning and technical review of the work. So, to meet our goal of supporting a complete design and build cycle that is quality, efficient, safe and in line with sustainable development, it is necessary to establish specific priorities and objectives in the project for the use of the model. These specific project requirements should be defined and documented according to the objectives and strategies agreed in the contractual documents.
